Providing Purpose

Room 1: Providing Purpose

Humans are complex, both in the ways we think and in the ways we behave. As a result, we have needs beyond the physical that must be met, often in a certain order as shown by Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. One of these needs is spirituality, which is fulfilled by discovering a purpose and meaning to our lives.

Spirituality is most often fulfilled through religion, but it can also be met by finding a sense of belonging, growing to understand oneself, or searching for peace. Coming to a greater knowledge is at the core of both spirituality and certainty. As the name implies, the Enlightenment project’s goal is to access enlightenment for everyone in society, which could be considered the peak of spiritual fulfillment. These artifacts reveal some of the ways that certainty can provide for spiritual needs.
